Meet Justine

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Justine Janis (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York City. I received my MSW from Washington University in St. Louis and completed a post-masters year-long fellowship focusing on psychosocial rehabilitation at Yale/ Veterans Administration in West Haven Connecticut. I've worked in a variety of mental health settings working with Veterans, emerging adults, adults & older adults.

My approach to therapy is humanistic, empathetic, and empowering. I draw on a variety of frameworks/theories tailored to each individual client. I have received training in the following practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-focused CBT, Mindfulness & breath work, Attachment Theory, Mentalization Based Therapy, Gottman Levels 1 Couples' Counseling.

I embrace a harm-reduction, whole-person approach to the therapeutic process. I believe it is important to explore cultural backgrounds, sexuality, gender, spiritual beliefs, race, and family systems to help people heal and learn to love their true selves. Therapy can be emotionally challenging and difficult at points and we will balance heaviness with lightness.

Clients often seek my services for the following reasons:

  • Relationship issues

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Feeling complacent or stuck in life

  • Career dissatisfaction

  • Low self-esteem

  • Work-life balance

  • Communication issues

  • Identity work

  • Adjusting to new changes (parenthood, moving, relationships, life transitions)

A recent photo from a hike out to Cathedral Rock in Sedona, AZ. It was grounding, magnificent and challenging!
